Artist Statement:

The Chrysanthemum series is about the transplanting of lives. Similar to the cuttings of a chrysanthemum taking root for growth in new soil, people immigrate to Harlem and make it their home. My Chrysanthemum series has evolved from purely improvisational drawing to a signification of cultural and personal meaning. Blossoming in a frosty November, the chrysanthemum embodies virtue and nobleness in its resilient spirit. The flower represents my roots left in Korea and transplanting by immigration to Harlem, a foreign soil now made home.
