Artist Statement:

This portrait is a representation of an unknown artist, but one of many, who made up the tapestry of the historic Harlem Renaissance era. On one hand, he represents many unknown artist who make up the collective whole, inspire and are inspired by the names we have come to know and love. On the other, he represents my connection with the past - with the artists, activists, and migrators, who once walked the pavement of Harlem, gave it life, lived, laughed, and loved. They are to me - still - the foundation of this community; the spirit that stayed alive when Harlem died, and remain the heart and backbone throughout its many changes.
